Recovery from surgery
Physiotherapy is often a very important component of recovery from surgery for joint and muscular problems. Many orthopaedic and musculoskeletal surgeries involve a period of rest and movement restrictions to facilitate healing. However this leads to other difficulties such as stiffness, pain and muscle weakness which need to be addressed to allow a full recovery.
Physiotherapy treatment after surgery usually involves a combination of stretching to improve range of motion and flexibility, improving muscle strength in areas that have become weak following immobilisation and assisting in recovering functional capacities including walking, stair climbing, running and driving.
This usually includes both hands on treatment and an exercise program to restore normal strength, flexibility, movement and function. In addition there have been reports that hypnotherapy can help recovery. This can be done prior to or after surgery. Click here for service details.
